PHILADELPHIA (July 4, 2009) - The Goodsun, New Media Arts will release the first book of visual artist Rah Crawford entitled Welcome to Earth - An Art Exhibition That Spanned Nearly Half A Decade.. And The Artist Who Painted It. The premier "Red Spine" release will be limited to 100 embossed, signed and numbered copies. It is a full color, 100 page hardback publication. A standard blue spine edition will also be available, which does not include the artist's signature or stamp.
Rah Crawford made his emerging gallery debut less than 5 years ago. Within that short span, his deliberate work ethic and approach to art has launched him across the Atlantic where he acquired representation in two of Europe's premier cities: London and Amsterdam. Creating an instant buzz, his work soon entered the famed Stedelijk Museum in Holland. Crawford's painting, "Bonjour Blase" was used as the spotlight image for Amsterdam's 2008 International AAF Fair. Through his London based rep Private View, Rah was commissioned to create several portraits of Olympic Athletes for the 2008 Games in Beijing . His Italian-styled Diesel brand shoes (which he wore when painting) are currently displayed at the SONS Museum in Belgium in a collection entitled "Footwear From Famous Artists Around the World" . In the states, Crawford's painting "Modern Mona" was auctioned for the Smithsonian Museum soon after NPIC-Art reached European shores. Live painting, music video cameos, and on stage art with legendary band "The Roots" appeared in documentaries chronicling Rah Crawford as an emerging artist on the rise.
The "Welcome to Earth" exhibition can best be described as an 'art experience' versus a conventional showcase of paintings. Lighting, music and entertainment were all prepared with extreme care to enhance the atmosphere for every guest who attended each of the openings. Rah used this formula to connect with his audience on a level that transcends paint, canvas, or the gallery framework. Public destruction of his artwork and topless models in a red-lit window, were some of the highlights that rattled art world cages. Directly inspired from the structure of the modern Opera, Rah divided his grand theme into 4 separate acts - unveiling these complex bodies of work annually over a period of 4 plus years.
Making use of interview snippets, photos and artwork; the Welcome to Earth book documents the emerging efforts of visual artist Rah Crawford - a review of his past underground creative ventures in publishing and music through to his recent above-ground art exhibitions and career highlights. A first publication for this living artist, eager to share his visions with the entire planet.
'The New York Times' reviewed Rah Crawford's art twice in November 2008 describing his paintings as "buoyant", "exuberant", and "optimistic".
